At True Team we practice systemic team coaching. Systemic team coaching supports teams as they take stock of their performance, relationships and ways of working against the goals and outcomes they need to achieve. It involves workshops and / or live interactions with a team, during its regular team meetings and work sessions. Your coach will contract with the team to identify its priorities and agree objectives and provide insights and observations on how the team is functioning while they go about their work. Engagements often start with a diagnostic, which could be a series of team and stakeholder interviews, and / or a survey to a wider audience about the team’s relationships and performance.

Systemic team coaching is intended to strengthen relationship connectivity in and between the team and the system it works in, such as other teams, partners, suppliers, customers, key stakeholders (such as the Exec team or Board) and the communities surrounding the organisation.

A team coach offers reflection, support and stretch at many levels; individual, team, organisational and environmental. A programme of systemic team coaching will support a team of talented individuals to become greater than the sum of their parts, by providing a structured, facilitated and regular opportunity for the team to get together to tackle a range of challenges, such as:

  • Agreeing a shared purpose and set of performance goals
  • Delivering against and managing the expectations of different stakeholders
  • Increasing pace - running and transforming business areas at the same time (often with fewer resources)
  • Strategy development
  • Innovation and new product development
  • Increasing the team’s capacity for working through conflict
  • Increasing the team’s resilience to change
  • Discussing, debating and challenging each other (overcoming group think) on the important issues
  • Supporting and engaging with remote, virtual teams
  • Working with partner teams (often with conflicting objectives)
  • Building trust across the team and with key stakeholders
  • Developing a learning system that can serve the capacity and capability of each team member
  • Holding each other to account


Systemic team coaching is done in partnership with the team and serves both the team and what the stakeholder community needs. Normally it is a learning journey, not a one off event. The first step is often a team “check in”, we also offer taster “jump start” packages that may suit a team that needs to re-focus its efforts and overcome a specific challenge quickly.
