To progress and succeed in any organisation, everybody needs to be pulling together. Team work and collaboration is the magic elixir behind performance and efficiency, but it needs nurturing. New ways of working remotely or in a hybrid fashion are much better for individual wellbeing and autonomy, yet can be a huge barrier to effective team work; it’s so tempting for us to hunker down and work independently of others.

Contracting with your team, coaching them and developing them are key leadership competencies, as well as agreeing ways of working, setting boundaries, such as key collaboration hours and role modelling values and behaviours.

As a leader, the culture of your team(s) is your responsibility. Take the temperature regularly, talk to every member of your team and find out what’s working and what challenges they are facing. Are they inspired by a shared vision and purpose? Do they work well together? How are the levels of wellbeing and resilience across the team? Are they equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to excel?

As common themes emerge it will become clearer what your priorities are. Now could be the time to talk to a team coach, we coach leaders and their teams.
